A ruling given by a Russian court on Friday ordered that access to the Telegram messenger service should be blocked in Russia.

This was as a result of Russian news agencies reporting heralding communication disruption for a large number of users with government officials inclusive.
This decision was made after Russia’s state communication watchdog filed a lawsuit to limit access to Telegram messaging app following the company’s refusal to give Russian state security services access to its user’s messages.
The founder of Telegram – Pavel Durov in his word said that his company would never hand over encryption keys to Russian authorities as it does not share confidential user data with anyone.

Telegram is becoming more popular as an app for mobile devices and desktops – not only among ordinary people but is widely used by authorities in Russia.
With this recent development, Telegram has become the second global network to be blocked in Russia. LinkedIn – the first, was blocked in 2016 when the firm was found guilty of violating a law that requires companies holding Russian citizens’ data to store it on Russian-based servers.
