About 50 already sold protein items at grocery shops in the United States branded under Premier foods have been recently recalled due to the possibility of bacteria resulting in vomiting, fever, and urinary tract infections.

Premier Protein Recall Costco Letter

Premier Protein wrote a letter dated 28th July 2022 and addressed it to all Costco Members. The letter is titled “URGENT VOLUNTARY PRODUCT RECALL PROTEIN SHAKES”.

The content of the letter has been attached below.

Dear Costco Member,

Costco records indicate that you, or one of your add-on members, have purchased one of the following items between May 1, 2022 and July 29, 2022 with a product code containing the letters BT.

#1079783 Premier Protein 11oz Protein Shake, Vanilla, 18ct UPC: 6-43843-71864-2

#1336513 Premier Protein 11oz Protein Shake, Café Latte, 18ct UPC: 6-43843-71856-7

Premier Nutrition was informed by its supplier, Lyons Magnus in Beloit, WI that they identified the potential for spoilage and microbial contamination including from the organism Cronobacter sakazakii, due to product not meeting commercial sterility requirements.

While infection related to Cronobacter sakazakii is rare, the common symptoms of illness could include fever, vomiting and urinary tract infection, especially in children younger than 1 year and vulnerable/immunocompromised populations may be more susceptible to infection.

The list of recalled products does not include products intended for infants (i.e., under the age of one).

To date, no illnesses related to these products have been reported, and the recall is being initiated in consideration for the wellbeing and safety of our customers and consumers.

Only Premier Protein shakes with the letters BT in the product code are impacted by this recall.

To identify whether the product you have is affected check the lot number on your package, which is visible on the outer case or the top of the shake carton.

If your product is part of this recall, do not use it and return it to your local Costco for a full refund.
