Nokia’s Media Technologies Research department was considered worthy of the award for its role in the development of ISO Base Media File Format standardization, a part of the MPEG-4 standard used in video streaming.

This format paved way for the creation of the HEIF (High-Efficiency Image File Format) format also developed by Nokia. It leads to an improved way of storing and sharing images. It can be enabled in the camera app of some Nokia devices.

Many do believe Emmy is mainly for movie stars but the organizers have deemed it fit to patronize the achievements in the technology promoting the movie industry.
