iPhone and iPad Models that Supports Face ID
Supported devices are Apple iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, and iPad Pro from 2018 till date.
Devices that don’t support the Face ID features can use Touch ID as an alternative.
How to Set Up Face ID on iOS Devices
Turning on your device for the first time after buying, you will be prompted and asked if you would want to turn on the Face ID feature. If you want, you can set it up outrightly.
However, if you have been using your device for a while and are just willing to give the feature a try, just follow the procedure below.
- Open the Settings app on your device and tap Face ID & Passcode. If you are using a passcode to protect your device, then you will be required to enter it before you can proceed.
- After entering your passcode, tap Set Up Face ID. Ensure you can clearly see your face on the camera. Also, do not wear a mask or any cover to your face.
- Next, tap Get Started and position your face within the frame and turn your head slowly within the circle until the first scan is completed.
- Now, tap Continue and do the same for the second scan and tap Done once it’s completed.
Henceforth, when you try to unlock your iPhone, it will attempt to detect your face and unlocks automatically if it can detect it. However, if someone else tries to use the feature on your phone, it won’t recognize their face and you might need to unlock your phone using the passcode on the next attempt.
If you have already enabled this feature, you can add an alternative face. To do this, tap Set Up an Alternate Appearance.
How to Use Face ID for Apps on iOS
You can lock and open supported apps using the Face ID. apps. Here’s how to set it up.
- Go to Settings and tap Face ID & Passcode.
- Next, enter your phone’s passcode and tap Other Apps. You will see a list of the apps on your device that supports this feature.
- Now, to enable Face ID for an app, toggle it on.
