In this post, you will be learning how to replace a lost National Identity Number (NIN) slip.
Recently, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) made a release compelling Nigerians to link their NIN to phone. Also, the government agency also instructs all network operators in the country to stop new SIM registrations immediately and disconnect all their customers who fail to link to the NIN in 2 weeks.
This has led to a spike in the number of people visiting NIMC registration centres over the weeks since no one wants their line disconnected. In fact, in many of these centres, people disregard Covid-19 safety guidelines. They have witnessed a crowd much more than what was expected and many appeared without a facemask.

The NIN enrolment is compulsory for every Nigerian and is used as a means to verify the identities of citizens. The individual NIN records are stored safely in the National Identity Database.
However, if you have enrolled for the NIN, have gotten your slip but finally misplaced it, I have a piece of good news for you. You don’t need to re-enrol for the service.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has released information to help those that have lost their National Identity Number slip on how to get another copy.
How to Replace a Lost National Identity Number (NIN) Slip
In the release, NIMC made it clear that anyone who lost their NIN slip can get it replaced at any NIMC centre around them. However, they will have to make a 500 Naira REMITA payment from any bank.
In addition, the person is expected to go along with the Remita teller to any enrolment centre as evidence of payment, and request for a reprint of the NIN slip. Kindly supply your mobile number to the agent available or verify your fingerprint. A reprint will be made and handed over to you.
The agency instructs that the NIN is unique for every citizen. It further states that it is used to establish the identity of every Nigerian and warn against selling and sharing the NIN as it can be used for fraud.
What to do If I forget my NIN?
If you have forgotten your NIN number, you can easily retrieve it by dialling *346# on all networks.
