If you mistakenly delete an Instagram post, then you probably need to recover it. Here, we have explained how to recover deleted Instagram posts.
The “Recently Deleted” feature which helps users to recover recently deleted posts was introduced to Instagram in February 2021. It is a great feature which prevents you from losing your posts, or better still will help you recover your posts in case you lose them.
Instagram posts can be recovered from the “Your Activity” tab. Under this, locate the “Recently deleted” folder and allow the deleted posts in the folder to load.

Once, it loads, you can then choose the post to restore. Finally, tap “Restore” and the post will be recovered. The deleted post can be viewed on your Instagram once you tap “Restore”, and people that follow you can see it under your profile.
Kindly note that only posts that have been deleted from the last 30 days can be recovered from the “Recently deleted” folder. These files are discarded automatically after 30 days and will no longer be recoverable unless you have a saved copy in your gallery.
Therefore, if you deleted a post within the last 30 days, you can still recover it.
Below, we have explained how to recover deleted Instagram posts on mobile phones.
Does Instagram keep deleted posts?
Posts deleted on Instagram are kept for 30 days. During this period, you will be able to restore the photos if you change your mind.
Afterwards, the deleted post will be erased forever and you won’t be able to recover them through any means. However, this is after it has been kept safe for 30 days.
Since February 2021, deleted Instagram posts are moved to the “Recently Deleted” folder. Here, you will find folders containing deleted posts, stories, videos and reels from the previous 30 days.
However, you can recover the posts by simply restoring them to the “Recently Deleted”. Simply select the post you would like to restore and tap Restore. To delete an Instagram post, simply tap Delete.
How to recover deleted Instagram posts
Launch the Instagram app and go to your profile tab. Next, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) from the navigation bar on the topmost right. Here, you will be able to see Settings, Your activity, Archive, and other options.
Now, tap “Your Activity” and you will be able to manage your Instagram activity by reviewing and managing them. Locate and tap the “Recently deleted” option and you will be able to see all deleted posts like photos, videos and reels on Instagram from the last 30 days alongside a timestamp attached to each post stating how many days are left before it gets permanently deleted.
Simply choose the post to be recovered and you will see the post in its full size. Finally, see the three dots at the right end and tap “Restore”.
Instead of recovering the post, you can also choose the first option from the menu to delete the post permanently. Otherwise, choose “Restore” and the post will then be visible from your profile.
If you have deleted a post from your archive, such post when restored, will be sent back to the archive when recovered and not your feed. Go to your Instagram profile, then select Menu and choose Archive to see posts under Archive. However, you can also remove a post from the Archive to send it to your profile.
