How to Change Your Router’s Wi-Fi Name
Here are the steps required to modify your Router’s Wi-Fi name
Login to your Wi-Fi Router
Routers are known to come with admin panel software as specified by manufacturers. This could vary directly or indirectly based on the type of model. But one sure thing is, their admin login steps follow the same process.
How to Login to Wi-Fi Router
Considering Airtel 4G MiFi router on Windows 10 as an example, below are the steps to log in to a Wi-Fi router.
On your PC, press and hold the Windows and R keys simultaneously. A Run window is launched to that effect. You can then type “cmd” (without “”) in the text field and click OK. Alternatively, you can type “cmd” in the Windows’ search bar and press enter. This takes you directly to the command prompt window.
In the command prompt window, type “ipconfig” (without “”) and press enter. From the loads of information that shows up on your window, find the Default Gateway line then select and copy the router’s IP address. In my own case, this is 192.168.0.1.
Further, proceed to login to router by typing the IP address into the address bar of any browser of your choice and press enter. You will be taken to the login page of the router. Now, you will be required to enter the username and password to gain access to the wireless router admin panel. For Airtel 4G MiFi, the username and password are the same. Just type admin in both fields and login.
The most considered username/password combinations are admin/admin, admin/password and admin /1234. The login information is usually provided at the back of the device and you can find it when the battery is removed or you find it from the container that it came with. If you can’t find yours, kindly refer to the image below for some common default router login details. However, if you are still unable to find this credential, you can refer to Router Passwords Website with your Router’s model number to find the default login details.
Modify Router’s Name
Once you are able to log in, look for Settings then Wireless Settings, or something similar (might be different for your router). Click on Wireless Settings and you will be able to view and change the Wi-Fi name and password. In some cases, the Wireless Settings is labelled as Wireless Network Name. To change the Wi-Fi name, enter the new SSID and click Save. You can also change the password from the default. However, note that all previously connected devices will be disconnected and you are to connect each and every of the device to the new name and using the new password. In addition, here are some funny Wi-Fi name suggestions you may like to consider.
Adjust Other Router Settings
Now that you are still logged to your router, you may consider making some changes to the default settings for a well-optimized, safe and secure web browsing performance.
However, you are advised to only make changes you are familiar with so as not to slow down your browsing speed eventually.
